The Fishtrap Creek UAV flight mission location is located near the north end of Westsyde Road, right beside the B.C. Backcountry Horsemen Fishtrap Creek Horse Camp. It is about a 15-minute drive from Barriere. The first flight mission was conducted on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Snow was over-knee-deep at the time. The creek was free of ice at this location. As of Tuesday, May 8, the waters are raging; a massive increase in flow over the past two weeks.  The creek has split and overflow is flowing just to the south through an existing culvert.

  • Water speed: very fast

The Fishtrap Creek North Thompson flood watch location contains seven sequences of the creek, starting on March 17, 2018. Some of the video is a little shaky as we were in tight quarters with the local shrubbery. Fishtrap Creek remained slow moving and relaxed up until April 27. The little creek is now like a raging river. It has split off a few hundred metres west of the bridge and has overflowed in the general area west of Westsyde Road. There is a small culvert handling some of the additional water.

This is a beautiful location. There is a nice open grassy area to spend a little time on a weekend afternoon.

The B.C. Backcountry Horsemen Fishtrap Creek Horse Camp is a popular place for a picnic; enjoy a sunny afternoon with the soothing sounds of Fishtrap Creek. Take your time on Westsyde road as there are many sections that are barely wide enough for two vehicles to meet. The road can be quite dusty at times. Well worth a drive to get back to nature in the North Thompson area.
