The North Thompson River location, just west of Barriere, can be found by travelling north of Barriere, and turning left just past the bridge onto Westsyde Road. Keep straight at the hairpin corner for just under one kilometre. The first flight mission was conducted on Saturday, March 17, 2018. This area receives a lot of sun, so the snow was not too deep. Our seventh trip was on April 9, 2018. The river level has come up substantially over the past two weeks, with heavy flows from the tributaries.

North Thompson River Barriere Flood Monitoring

The North Thompson River Barriere aerial video shows the change in water volume, from May 8 to May 12, 2018.  It is quite noticeable that the river continues to rise.  There is enough depth here now that the gravel bars below the surface are barely affecting surface flow anymore.  Enjoy the third sequence which gives you a low level view of the river towards the bridge on Highway 5 just north of Barriere, and then an overview of the valley.

The North Thompson River Barriere location contains seven video sequences of the river, starting March 17, 2018. The river was open when we started filming here. There were some very cool large ice flows floating down the river during our first two visits. The water levels here have stayed low until the April 27 flight mission, and since then the levels have been steadily increasing. Both gravel bars and the big boulders on the east side of the river are now covered up. More updates to follow.

There is a gravel pit/sand pit at this flight mission location. It was quite nice late in the afternoon; warm spring weather and no wind made for pleasant flights and outdoor experiences.
