Airspace Classification

The subject property is located outside the 9.0 Km radius of the Kamloops – CYKA – FSS, Clearwater and Shuswap aerodromes.  Unmanned Aerial Vehicle / Drone flight missions were conducted following protocols for Class G airspace as outlined in the Canadian Aviation Regulations to fly at this location.  Please reference the Canadian Aviation Regulations and see our UAV Regulations page for more information.

Unmanned aerial vehicle flight missions at this location require special considerations.  Permission was granted by the District of Barriere to conduct unmanned aerial vehicle flights.  Safety considerations included monitoring for manned aircraft and the general public.  Privacy of local landowners was also considered and respected.

Left is a photograph of the splash pad under construction.  This new feature at the community park is slated to be complete this year and open for a short time before fall arrives.

This park is perfect for people of all ages.  Children will enjoy a well developed and safe playground, the band stand offers a place for everyone to get together and enjoy local entertainment and the ball diamonds help to bring the community together through sports.

The District has done a great job of developing the area and making the community shine.

UAV Flight Mission Notes

We were fortunate to have great weather for filming at Fadear park.  The work completed by the various community members really shines!  The various features of the park, including the band shell, splash pad, playground and ball diamonds, make for an enjoyable place to relax or enjoy local recreation.

Other nearby features include the community garden and library.  The centralized location of the park makes it convenient for everyone to enjoy what the community has to offer.

Some of the challenges involved with the unmanned aerial vehicle mission included monitoring for the locations of obstacles such as power lines and trees.  When working within the limits of a city or town, UAV operators and visual observers need to ensure the safety and privacy of the general public.  Our visual observer did a great job of communicating safety concerns during the UAV flight missions.  Thank you Cory Buchanan.

About the District of Barriere

Barriere, British Columbia, is a peaceful community located about 35 minutes north of Kamloops.  Local industry consists of forestry products, mining, agriculture and small business.  Barriere is famous for the Fall Fair Rodeo, which is hosted around September long weekend – a must see attraction!  Also, the 4-H and Lions clubs are a big part of the community.  Thank you to Tasha Buchanan for giving Firefox the opportunity to work with you on this project.
